Information for Using this Mapping Web Site:

Our goal for this mapping information site is to make it easy to use, view and obtain information. There are several items that are required to view our maps and other supporting documents. These items are listed below. There are tips about our maps, how they are created, data sources and much more.

• The first item that must be set up for you to view our interactive maps is the MapGuide Viewer from Autodesk. This is a one-time install. Depending on your Internet connection the download may take a few minutes. It is a 2 MB file and may take 20 minutes or more on a slow dial-up connection. This plug-in is required to view the maps.
• Adobe Acrobat will be required to view the taxmaps in the public area. When subscribed, NLM will provide a more enhanced viewer with much more robust printing and user capabilities.

MapGuide Viewer:

Download the free viewer and install it for your operating system. This browser plug-in must be installed to use our interactive maps. Just click on the MapGuide icon to the right.

• Macintosh users should download the JAVA Viewer version.
• Netscape users can download the "Plug-In" Viewer version.
• Internet Explorer users (Win 2000 or newer OS) can download the ActiveX Viewer version.
• Internet Explorer users (Win 98 or earlier OS) can download version 5, found here.

Raster Image Viewer:

Many linked maps on our system are scans of the original drawings and are in a raster (TIFF) format. Some of these images may be large in file-size and may take some time to download.

• Recommended Viewer: Prizm v.6 plug in. TMSSequoia Prizm® Browser-Based Image Viewer Version 6.0
  Note: this is not a free viewer

Adobe Acrobat:

Some of the maps we provide are in a PDF format. This is a widely used tool for distributing files across computer systems.

Using the Interactive Maps:

Some quick notes about the interactive maps:

• The initial load of the maps may take a few seconds
• The first part of maps to load is an index map, general locations map
• Layers of information are on the left side of the maps
• These layers can be turned on and off by clicking the check box
• Display functions are across the left side top of the map area

Downloading the Mailmerge Files:

If you take advantage of our mailmerge feature, you'll need ot have a .zip application installed on your computer. Some notes regarding .zip files:

• If you are running Windows XP, you have .zip capability installed as part of your operating system.

• If you are running a version of Windows OLDER than XP, you need to download a .zip application. Links to two of the most popular can be found to the right.
